What would you do?

Something has been weighing heavily on my mind ....

While walking to our from a store on Sunday, hubby noticed a man & woman a couple rows away. They were arguing.

We watched for a few moments, while getting Cooper settled, etc. Not gawking. Concerned.

It seemed that everything was settling down, so we began to put the car in drive. Then, it got physical, with the woman shoving and hitting the man.

What to do? It wasn't our place to get involved, clearly. Would calling the cops make it better or worse?

We hung out for a bit longer. Hubby saw that the man was only verbal, not physical, with the woman. That was his main concern - he didn't want to see a woman getting hit. Shortly after, they drove away so we did too.

I'm not sure at what point we would have gotten involved and, if so, how.

What would you have done?

  1. In situations like that I'd be inclined to just call the law and let them handle it. In fact, I have done just that. I had neighbors that were fighting.. very loudly and very harshly. I could hear stuff breaking through our shared wall and I call 911 and report the domestic disturbance. Hope everything settled out okay for both parties and your family too.

  3. Yes, that is a tough spot to be in. You're right about wondering about making it worse, but I agree, I don't think I could stand by and watch someone being hurt. THink I could honk the horn and draw attention. Tough, tough spot! Enjoying your blog, Meryl =)

  4. I probably would have called the police if I saw him get physical with her. I know a lot of women who have been physically abusive with their boyfriend (usually when they're drunk) but normally the guy has enough control to turn and walk away. Although it is a little strange that they were arguing in such a public place.
